yarn along

it seems i have passed on my love of pippi longstocking (my childhood hero) to ezra
who has requested i knit him a pair of long stockings just like pippi wears.

i have been so busy these last few months knitting up this fair isle smock (buttons still to come)

and this little sorbet cardi for my friend clare's daughter stella.
ezra would ask every once and a while, "who's that for?"
and i started to feel the need to make something for him.
a knitting mother's guilt came over me.

so last weekend we finally made the trip out to michaels for some rainbow sock yarn, which ezra got to pick out for himself, and i started knitting the socks when we got home right away.  there is something very addicting about knitting up socks in these self striping colorful colorways.  i think i should always have a pair of socks on the needles.  they're so transportable and there are many inches (especially in long stockings) of mindless knitting to keep you entertained.

and as i'm knitting these adorable socks up, i've been thinking of all my friend's little ones who would love to have a pair of these.  if only there were more time in the day.

as you can see, i've made some progress in the last few days on the sock.  they are going to be super long - going all the way over his knees.  i have read the first chapter of "simplicity parenting" on the recommendation from many bloggers.  the first chapter was a bit dry, i'm waiting for it to get better.

instead of reading the book i've been knitting.

but, i have been reading your blogs and am happy to finally post a colorful knitting post as i've been a very lazy blogger.  i have more posts to come though.  we have a special visitor here with us!  p.s. linking up with ginny's yarn along this week.

  7. I knit a pair of socks using that yarn a couple of years ago. Like you, i find it addictive to watch the different stripes appear. I hope ezra promises to model the socks for us when they are complete.

  8. Wow - Pippi stockings - what a lucky guy! I've never knitted socks before so I wouldn't know where to start, but Pippi is a firm favourite in our house (the edition illustrated by Lauren Child was one of my daughter's first "chapter book" stories at bedtime - she's found it very hard to close a book and wait to see what happens next!)

Thanks for stopping by my pages ;0)
