five

ezra turned five almost four months ago and i never made a post about his birthday and this boy at five years old.  i just noticed this drafted post of pictures and decided it was time to publish.

ezra you are very big boy now at five years old, especially beside your newborn baby brother.  you still love thomas and lightning mcqueen and this year became a big fan of angry birds.  you had an 'angry birds' birthday cake with little fondant angry birds that chicken slaved over the night before your birthday.  we had some dear friends celebrate with us - the usual gang of friends who've known you since you were a baby.
some of the cute things you say in your five year old voice are renember instead of remember.  you used to say neven for seven but now you've got it right.  you say umbrellella and swammich and when we are all together and you want to say something you start with, "guys..."
you say sweet things to indy like "don't worry, i'm here.  you're not alone."  you always ask what he's saying when he's crying or makes sounds.  you also always want us to say what the characters in books are saying from the looks on their faces.  you are beginning to ask why and what all the time.  "what does 'you kicked butt' mean?" or 'cool dude' you asked daddy when he said those words to you recently.
you still love giving group hugs and often call for them - and now you make sure indy is in the circle too.
a new interest in rock 'n roll music has developed since the arrival of pandora in our home.  current favorite songs are ac/dc's "you shook me all night long" and van halen's "you really got me."  you often will make your cars race around to the music.
you pump the air below you with your fists like a tap dancer holding an imaginary baton when you are excited (this is just what it looks like - not something you are imitating).    sometimes it's during the happy part of a movie or for some secret reason we don't know when you are in your own private world of imaginary play.  my favorite times of the day are watching you immersed in play.  you build little worlds with your blocks, cars, and playmobil.  you love your stuffed animals and will have tea parties with them - your favorites are a puppy, two horses, a zebra, and an elephant.  you are also a great drawer and painter and just learned to play a song on the piano - the theme song to "cat in the hat knows a lot about that" one of your favorite shows.   you love your family and are always happy to see extended family members and sad to see them go.  we are all so proud of you and love you dearly.

  1. Beautiful........he is an awesome 5 year old. His little whisperings to Indy remind me of Dillon when Ro was a new born. Enjoy - as they grow so fast.xoxo

  3. That was 8 days before I gave birth and the week before you started your whirlwind will-Indy-come-early-or-won't-he expedition! We were both feeling pretty big then! I like your recounting of all things Ezra at age 5. Your description of him, paints a vivid picture of who he is at this point in time, it would make a great entry into his baby book!
