halloween 2012

halloween preparations went underway a week or two before the big day.

the weekend before, we went to a local pumpkin patch.

this little penguin baby was sooooo cute!  (it's not my baby) but, do you see all the flies on top of his hat and the one on top of the pumpkin?  those flies were everywhere and almost ruined the trip...

if it hadn't been for that cute little penguin in the patch and the huge corn maze!

ezra was super excited

and indy too.

the corn was high and it took us only 12 minutes to find our way.

the night before halloween michael and ezra made these wonderful light saber pictures.

on the day of halloween, indy's baby yoda costume arrived in the mail and we took a quick picture out front before indy could crawl off the blanket and sully up his brand new costume.  he is a master speed crawler now.  it's a distant memory now this moment, but i remember it being rather stressful getting this shot, mostly because ezra and i were in the beginning stages of a debilitating head cold.  i remember asking ezra to help me with holding things and him saying, "mommy, i'm still just little."  sigh...

ezra was an awesome 'master ezra' jedi.  he proudly wielded his sword during our trick or treating gallivanting and i think the other kids noticed because some older boys commented on his costume and a little girl who came up beside him at a front door to trick or treat said, "i like your light saber."  it reminded me of the way napoleon dynamite told deb, "i like your sleeves.  they're real big."

baby yoda was so snuggly.  this is a great baby costume.  so soft it is.  mmm.  i think i'm going to have him wear the yoda ears just to keep warm for the rest of the year.  he loved them.

we first trick or treated at our friend and neighbor's house and she took these two pictures with her phone.  chicken came to celebrate with us.  we were a jedi family.  michael put together his and my costumes just hours before we left to go out.  chicken brought the sewing machine and michael cut and sewed away while i made spaghetti.  he's a crafty man.

bright light!

an hour and a half later, we came back with the loot and let the boys at it.  ezra ate a pack or two of his favorite skittles and indy scrunched and patted away at the wrappers and then found a lollipop to suck on (we never took off the wrapper).

chicken spent two nights while michael was away on an interview.  she snapped this picture of me holding the computer for a skype session with matthew.  indy was showing him his new walker skills.

that day we bought smore's cake pop mix and made them that night.   we went to the drive in (first time experience for me and the boys), bought the yarn i'm using to make ezra's new vest and got pez and holiday treats at cost plus.  it was so much fun hanging out with chicken for me and the boys.  she left sooner than we ever want her to but with a truck load of boxes from our garage heading back to the ranch.  it's that time again to pack up and get moving.  the time is flying by here with october turning into november so fast (for me anyways) and thanksgiving now just two weeks away.  before i know it, christmas will be upon us, ezra will turn six and we will be living back in our hometown.  there is so much to look forward to.

  2. OH - such a good post - love the boys costumes. Indy is such a cute baby you just want to cuddle. I am sure Ezra is excited to get back to the farm. The excitement of the holidays and the treats at cost plus (our favorite place for St. Nicholas goodies - don't forget to have the boys put their shoes out). Amazing to think you are packing up already. Chey xo
