baby surprise sweater

the lovely beginnings of a stash busting project

underneath it here you can see the eleventh hour blanket i finished a few weeks ago

i liked the stripes that were forming from leftover yarns used for baby knitting as well as gifts for family members.  it made me think of the time i knit ezra's rainbow vest, a headband for my cousin, and a cowl for my mother in law.  and i thought of my friend lori, who sent me yarn from her stash to knit for indy with.  for me, knitting is mostly about the process.  it is my meditation, a soothing, mind calming activity.  i need this to keep me sane - especially right now in my life.

i noticed three quarters of the way that i forgot to make some increases for the back but decided to make them a few inches later thinking it wouldn't matter.  what was i thinking?  finish!  he's long!  elizabeth zimmerman, the famous pattern designer, would say to just carry on the baby won't know the difference.

you can't tell in these pictures that there is quite a mistake in the shaping.
but, unfortunately there is.

taking pictures of indy wearing the sweater made me feel better about having to tear it apart to salvage the yarn for some other stash busting project.  he only would've been able to wear this sweater for a couple of weeks anyway had it fit right.

you can kind of see here how the back shoulder region is wonky.

he really didn't mind, but i don't think it's right to make him wear an ill fitting sweater.

i just had to snap a few more pictures of his sweet little smiley face.

he is a very happy sunshine baby.

indy is five months old as of yesterday.  he's keeping me very busy - away from the blog-o-sphere and other things.  he rolls from one side of the room to the other and has started tasting his first tastes of food.  when he's not doing one of those two things, he's usually in the baby bjorn walking around the house with me aimlessly as i look at all that needs doing but can't be done.  i sense a lot of growing going on right now with him.  he's busy during the day and night - we're not getting much rest lately.  each new stage is so wonderful to see.  it is so heartwarming to see the relationship between the boys develop as ezra tells indy about the world around him and indy looks up to his brother with adoring eyes.  the feeling is mutual though as ezra says,"you're so cute! you're the cutest!" every day to indy.  so so sweet...  i love my boys.

  8. From someone who doesn't know how to knit (as you know) I couldn't tell the sweater wasn't right - I don't have the "eye" for it. ;) But it's great that you got some photos of cute Indy in it - sometimes that's the most important thing as far as memories go.

Can't wait to see your new project!
