and then the clouds came....

yesterday we went to sign the contract for our new home - the one i mentioned with the view of the beach from the 11th floor...  when they accepted our offer we felt a huge sense of relief.  but, the next day we looked over the contract and there were things that weren't right.  later we met with the lessor's realtor and found out a lot more things that weren't right.  mainly our new landlord was short on cash and past due on her building's association fees.  our rent money was going to be used to pay her overdue bills to catch her up with the association.  we found out in the management office that we would not be able to use the amenities after which her realtor scrambled to remedy that.  he was expecting us to pay his commission fees because he disclosed that he didn't want to wait forever to get it from his client.  the red flags were waving every minute of our interaction with him.  we can't afford to lose our security deposit of which her realtor said, "she's usually pretty good about that."  hmmmm.  we need a more positive affirmation than that...  and it all just seemed a little scandalous and crooked to be a good deal.  we regretfully (but we think wisely) rescinded our offer and are back at square one.  we looked at two places today and think we found one.  fingers crossed!
