so i've made one little milo for the baby. it was fast, easy and came out perfectly - because of course i have no baby to measure it against yet. i have started a milo for ezra three times now getting well past 5 inches before pulling it all apart and starting over. the pattern is written largely. i remembered ginny posting something about that as she was the first to introduce the milo to me on her blog. but, i didn't think to check her ravelry notes until after i'd already had two unsuccessful attempts. she does say in her notes that she knit a 3-6 month size vest for her two year old and indeed i am now knitting a 2 year old size for my 4 year old. ravelry is great for so many things, free patterns, inspiration, and now i have a new respect for keeping notes on certain knits. so to all you knitters considering the milo, check your gauge and measure as you go. i slip my stitches onto a spare thread of yarn and pull it over ezra's head. it's such an adorable knit and i'm sure i'll make many many more of these. i couldn't get my post finished this morning because we met a friend at the playground and checked out the christmas tree recently installed by the fountain. it was a grand sight and we've been getting in the spirit here with ezra checking out christmas books already at the library. last night we read margaret wise brown's "christmas eve" book for the first time. "goodnight moon" is my favorite early childhood book. i had not read her christmas book before and was delighted by the story and different style prose than her usual lyrical poetic style. today we read "madeline's christmas." we love all the madeline books. i finished reading kate morton's "the forgotten garden" and liked it as much as "the distant hours." also on the needles is a lace scarf for a dear friend. ravelry notes here. joining ginny this week for the yarn along!
I just finished a milo this week for my son. I used a worsted weight yarn, so I adjusted and knit the 2yo size. I purposely made it a bit long hoping it will fit through next year. Love the color of yours.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the milo color and the baby will love love love it. I figured you would love The Forgotten Garden (because I did). If you have any recommendations of books let me know since we are attracted to similar plot lines :)
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my fav patterns, I often make it as a gift for new babies. I haven't had any issues with the sizing though, did you do it in 8ply not worsted? I often find if I knit in cotton my sizing seems to go bigger for some reason than if I knit in wool.
ReplyDeleteI AM considering a milo, so I am very grateful to you for pointing out this size discrepancy - thank you thank you thank you!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't pulled Madeline's Christmas out of the cupboard yet - the first reading of which is fast becoming a family signal that it's all kicking off around here!!!
yah! i want to make a milo... for our newest one to be ! :)))
ReplyDeletewhen are you due? xoxox
Oh, that is good to know about the milo. I only made the one for my friend's daughter, but I will never know how it fit because it was lost in the mail. =(
ReplyDeleteHey nunu - your projects look beautiful. I'm a new knitter - so I am always amazed at the beautiful things others can make. :) Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
ReplyDeleteLove the baby's milo! Thank you for the sizing advice - I am just about to cast on! Christmas is really nearly here isn't it? I so need to start 'preparing'. :-)

ReplyDeleteI just love that Milo pattern and I keep seeing those cute little vests everywhere. Your version is so colourful and cheerful, what a lucky baby =)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had known about the Milo when the boys were younger. I love Ezra's love of rainbow colours. The Forgotten Garden is actually next on my list of reads. Good to hear you liked it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Ravelry is a great resource and I never use it. Shame on me, but I appreciate your reminder!! Your milo is wonderful and inspiring really :). Loved Forgotten Garden, will try Distant hours soon then...
