this was my very first sewing machine project ever! i'm so excited about it. i needed a better place to keep all of my double pointed needles. i used to hold them all loose in a mesh bag and would have to go through 40 or 50 needles to find the right size set. lately i've had a few more projects than normal using dpns and decided it was time to be better organized.
i was inspired a while back by my friend lori's post about her needle case and when my sister in law told me about the scrap bin at joanns fabric store, i knew i had better take advantage of living in a house with a sewing machine while i had the chance! this project cost me about $10.00.
like lori, i didn't use a pre made pattern - i just used my brain, a yardstick, a pencil and paper and made up my own. this was the hardest part of making it but was a fun puzzle to piece together. what i ended up with is functional and acceptable looking. i was the most nervous about sewing on the machine, but really enjoyed it and found it much simpler than i anticipated. i see a sewing machine in my future!
if you look closely, you'll see my sewing isn't perfect, but this was my first time on the machine and i just wanted to make something that met my needs. i am quite pleased with my finished product.
with a little guidance from my ever patient mother in law, i have now learned to sew. she is also the woman who taught me to knit. how can i ever thank her enough?
teach your children. thanks passed on... x

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!!! Lori is such an inspiration isn't she!! I am still dreaming of making the folder that holds all her patterns and circulars. And you have inspired me too with the double pointed needle roll :)!!
