yarn along

 joining ginny's yarn along today!  i love seeing what other people are knitting and reading and enjoy this little community of knitters and readers because it has given me great ideas for both what to knit and to read.  this week i am still reading "simplicity parenting" and can only reiterate that it seems to repeat the concepts i've read in the books "you are your child's first teacher," "beyond the rainbow bridge," and "heaven on earth."  so i've been skimming a lot and skipping to anecdotes that are of interest to me.  if you've never read any of those books, i'm sure you'd find his book a wealth of good information.  i have been enjoying "the distant hours" which came recommended during last week's yarn along by karen at pumpkin sunrise.  i really like the author's voice and will read her other two novels as well when i'm finished with this one.  the book takes place in england and follows a young woman's search for answers to her mother's past.  there's a castle, an eccentric famous author's family, and a mystery to be solved.  it is hard to put down.

on the needles are the pom pom papoose i've wanted to make for years but by the time i got the book with the pattern for it, ezra was no longer a small enough baby for it.  i highly recommend erika knight's book "knitting for two" - i have made many lovely knits from this book and would love to make everything in it!

because i no longer want to have knitter's guilt when ezra asks who i'm knitting for, i think i will always try to have something on the needles for him as well.  i'm finally making the lyalya pixie hat for ezra.  i saw it yesterday on kendra's blog, she made one for her adorable baby, but have seen it for years over at waldorf mama and have always thought it would be a fun knit for ezra.  after two tropical winters i'm looking forward to a cooler winter back in california this year and i think he'll be able to get some use out of it.  some.  the pattern is great because it is written for sizes baby to adult, so i think we'll have to have matching pixie hats for the whole family (although i know michael won't wear his already so perhaps just me and the boys) - that's right - we're having another boy! 

this is ezra's little brother's first knitted item - the puerperium cardigan.

it was so fun to knit, i loved the pattern and am going to get more from kelly brooker (on ravelry).  

i just have yet to block and sew on these cute little teddy bear buttons.  

it is so much fun to knit for your baby!
